We have just updated the Terms of Service, specifically where it talks about language and naming (topics IV.5 and IV.6). The way it was previously worded was this:
At no point will offensive, derogatory, obscene or otherwise objectionable language be tolerated by the OriginsRO GM team. This includes, but is not limited to racial, religious and ethnic slurs, sexism, threatening, harassment and unlawful, harmful, abusive, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, hateful or otherwise objectionable language.
This pretty much applied to both naming and spoken language throughout public chats. Since we do tolerate colorful language to some degree, we felt this should be rewritten to better reflect which cases will and which cases won't be punished. Be sure to check it out!
The general rule is that words that a dictionary may call "vulgar" can be tolerated if:
- They are not being used to offend.
- They are not being used repeatedly.
- A sexual or violent act is not being described with them.
- They are not being used in names (guild name, character name, vending and chats, pets etc.).
